History


Yellow Brick Road is a promotion company specializing in music, event, and urban lifestyle street-level marketing. YBR Promotions was launched in 1999 as an alternative, grassroots outlet for music promotion in San Francisco: as retaliation against mundane, impersonal and ineffectual commercialized media advertising. Since its inception, it has grown to become a multi-faceted all-inclusive service provider offering marketing, consultation, and comprehensive campaign management for the entertainment industry including music, art, film, fashion, magazine, interactive gaming, and urban culture, as well as for corporate and non-profit organizations.

YBR is personally dedicated to the progression and enrichment of urban culture striving to help educate and inform the public by promoting events, music, artists, products and causes with integrity. YBR Promotions has developed a unique method of tastemaker branding and campaigning by generating exposure for our clients in an inventive, creative, personable and strategic way. Generating a pool of in depth knowledge and resources acquired through years of intimate involvement in the San Francisco entertainment and tastemaker community, YBR has acquired exclusive access and insight into niche, urban target demographics.

YBR is currently the promotions and marketing firm of choice for San Francisco, having established tight-knit relationships and partnerships with venues, retail locations, event producers, and other affiliates within the industry.  YBR has managed to accomplish a great deal of success, having promoted over 1200 events, concerts, product branding campaigns, and record releases to date.

More About Us

Save a tree!  YBR is proud to set the standard for re-circulating and recycling promotional materials.  Each night we return unused materials to the YBR Headquarters, so that materials can be redistributed, as opposed to thrown away.  We encourage the street team to use good judgment in not wasting materials unnecessarily.

Group Effort: We request that promoters go out in teams, so that they have more of an impact collectively while out promoting. Creating partnerships amongst promoters also insures their safety and creates a preferred system of “checks and balances” that allows them to stay on task with efficiency and thoroughness.

Massive Impact, Covert Coverage: Although promotions are done in a respectful and personable manner, YBR has managed to create effective strategies that allow for massive promotional coverage.

(For instance, if YBR is promoting your next club event, it is likely that you could find your promotional materials and people who have received them at as many as 12 venues throughout San Francisco in one night.)

YBR’s material distribution leans slightly toward the conservative side in the sense that the preferred method  of promotion is focused predominantly on hand-to-hand distribution, with only few flyers thrown around venues to create a presence without being excessive.  YBR also chooses to only place small stacks of flyers in retail each week, as opposed to leaving a large stack only once, so that materials waste can be monitored while being consistently replenished and in good placement with a great presence for the consumer to retrieve information at all stocked locations.
